Galapagos
Marine Iguana

The marine iguana is
found only on the Galapagos Islands, but has spread to all the islands
in the archipelago, and is sometimes called the "Galapagos marine
iguana". It mainly lives on the rocky Galapagos shore, but can also be
spotted in marshes and mangrove beaches.
Did you know that marine iguanas feed mostly
on small red or green algae (seaweed). The algae regenerate fast and
are a constant food source. Marine iguanas have a high salt content in
their diet. They sneeze to expel salt from salt glands located above
the eye. Their heads are often encrusted with salt.
